Kristian Nesbitt is a Printmaker who makes mono-print etchings. He obtained his BFA from Thompson Rivers University, and is a graduate from Georgian College’s four year fine arts program. Originally from Burlington, Kristian is the recent winner of the Emerging Artist’s scholarship from The Print Studio, in Hamilton, where he now works out of.
Specializing in Viscosity Printing, his mono-print etchings, which are printed in editions consisting of several prints similar in style, colour and application, all prints within the edition are ‘one-of-a-kinds.’ The work itself is purely Abstract, and process driven. The process allows for a certain amount of chance to occur, thus making the work structured, yet random. By using the juxtaposition of chance and structure within the process, Kristian stays true to the traditions of Printmaking yet bends them simultaneously.
Inspired by many great artists of the Abstract-Expressionist era, his favourites include such artists as Wassily Kandinsky and Willem De Kooning. However, the artist who inspired Kristian the most was Jackson Pollock, as many of Kristian’s thoughts, ideas, and imagery derive from Pollock and his work.
